PRESS RELEASE Joint Secretary (Indian Ocean Region) visits Seychelles

Shri Puneet Agrawal, Joint Secretary (Indian Ocean Region), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India was on a two-day official visit to Seychelles from 6 – 7 July 2023. The visit entailed meetings with the leadership of the Government of Seychelles, overview of development and defence partnership, interaction with the diplomatic corps as well as engagement with the Indian diaspora in Seychelles.

2. Joint Secretary Agrawal called on Vice President H.E. Mr Ahmed Afif and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism H.E. Mr Sylvestre Radegonde. Other calls took place with Designated Minister and Minister for Fisheries and Blue Economy H.E. Mr Jean-Francois Ferrari, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Trade H.E. Mr Naadir Hassan and Minister of Interior H.E. Mr Errol Fonseka. He also met with Chief of Defence Forces Brig Michael Rosette and PS for Trasport, Ports and Civil Aviation Mr Alan Renaud.

3. Joint Secretary, along with High Commissioner, visited some completed High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) in Mont Fleuri, Plaisance and Anse Boileau to view the progress and achievements of India-Seychelles development partnership projects. JS Agrawal also visited the Seychelles Coast Guard Base for overview of defence relations in terms of capacity building and technical cooperation. He had a cordial interaction with the Indian diaspora and also participated in the inauguration ceremony of 04 Methadone Vans gifted by India to Seychelles Ministry of Health through a grant of USD 194,000, held in the presence of Minister of Health H.E. Mrs Peggy Vidot and PS Dr Bernard Valentin.

4. The visit concluded as an important diplomatic engagement in the context of a robust bilateral relationship and the warm and cordial friendship shared by India and Seychelles.
