High Commission celebrated the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at Peace Park in Victoria in the morning of 2 nd October, 2023.

The event was attended by Minister of Interior, H.E. Charles Fonseka, Minister for Local Government and Community Affairs, H.E. Rose-Marie Hoareau, members of the diplomatic corps and members of the Indian diaspora, who also rendered floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi.

Addressing the gathering High Commissioner spoke about the universal significance of Mahtama Gandhi’s thought that continues to inspire the generations of today. Special guest speaker on the occasion, Ms Diana Benoit, Director, James R. Mancham Peace and Diplomacy Research Institute shared her thoughts on non- violence as a powerful tool for change and its growing relevance in today’s society.

The event also included stirring vocal and dance performances of ‘Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram’ as well as ‘Vaishnav Jan to’.
