India Development Foundation of Overseas Indians (IDF-OI) was set up by the Government of India in 2008 as a not-for-profit Trust to facilitate Overseas Indian philanthropy into social and development projects in India. The Trust is exempt from provisions of the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA), 2010 of the Ministry of Home Affairs which enables IDF-OI to receive foreign contributions.
IDF-OI is administered by a Board of Trustees, chaired by Smt. Sushma Swaraj, Minister of External Affairs.

IDF-OI’s present mandate is to promote the following projects for funding by Overseas Indians:
Recognizing the emotional connect of Overseas Indians with their place of origin in India, IDF-OI has also partnered with State Governments to offer projects identified by them for contribution by Overseas Indians. 15 States are now working with IDF-OI and are keen to seek assistance of Overseas Indians for projects in areas like Women’s Empowerment, Sustainable Livelihood, Education, Sanitation, and Healthcare. Projects are available for funding in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Tripura, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
During and after project implementation, the contributor will receive quarterly progress reports from project implementing agency regarding the impact made by the project; and feedback about actual site/beneficiaries along with photographs/videos. The project implementation reports will also be posted on the IDF-OI portal. The reports will have the contacts of the State Government or the implementing agency should the donor wish to contact them directly Contributors will receive quarterly accounts of actual Project expenditures from implementing agencies to ensure that the schedule of Project goals, the actual costs as compared with the original budget estimates is being met.
IDF-OI does not charge any administrative cost from contributions made by Overseas Indians. Every rupee of the contribution will go where it is needed the most.
