International Day of Yoga 2021


7th International Day of Yoga Celebration (IDY 2021) on 21st June 2021

The High Commission of India celebrated the 7th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21st June 2021. Keeping in view the ongoing pandemic and the laid out social distancing norms, the event was organized in virtual mode wherein the participants joined online through the social media channels of the High Commission of India.

The event was inaugurated by the High Commissioner of India to Seychelles, General Dalbir Singh Suhag by lighting a traditional Indian lamp. He then delivered the opening remarks wherein he spoke on the relevance of yoga in times of COVID-19 crisis.  He emphasized that yoga helps us maintain healthy body, sound mind and strong immune system which is essential to fight COVID-19. 

He also informed that the High Commission of India in association with Seychelles Broadcasting Corporation is broadcasting six yoga sessions on SBC 2 channel during the weekends in June to help people practice Yoga from the safety and comfort of their homes. Four such sessions have already been broadcasted online and on SBC2 channel.

A special video message from the Vice-President of the Republic of Seychelles, H.E. Ahmed Afif, on International Day of Yoga 2021, was played whereby he spoke at length on the beneficial effects of Yoga on physical and mental health and its use to combat the growing lifestyle diseases.

An online yoga session based on the Common Yoga Protocol was conducted by local Yogis from Yoga Association of Seychelles, Steve Thellermont, Josette Ruiz and Vasanti Patel.  At the end, to commemorate World Music Day, an online Indian classical music performance by Shri Pranshu Chaturlal, a renowed Tabla Artist from India was broadcasted.
